In Fiscal Year 07/08, Siemens’ orders grew by 10% to a record high of $1.8 billion. The company also clinched a number of highly-significant contracts, including the delivery of the Magnetom Verio to Singapore General Hospital, making it the first site in Asia Pacific to install the world’s first MRI system that combines 3-tesla ultra-high field technology with a patient-friendly 70-cm open bore; and the contracts to install building management and security systems, fire alarms, and the Sentron low-voltage busway system for the Marina Bay Financial Center, Singapore’s new downtown financial district.
Mr Bott also spearheaded many R&D partnerships with research institutes, private and government-linked organizations here. One of the most prominent partnerships is in the area of water technologies – where Siemens works closely with PUB to recycle used water into drinking water. In healthcare, Siemens partnered with the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*Star) and the National University of Singapore to set up the Clinical Imaging Research Centre, a world-class R&D imaging facility to promote pioneering biomedical imaging research, in 2007. Most recently in 2008, Mr Bott convinced Siemens headquarters to set up an office for its corporate R&D division in Singapore. This Corporate Technology office is Siemens’ third in Asia, after China and India, and first in Southeast Asia.
A champion for work-life balance, Mr Bott has implemented a series of programs to help Siemens employees harmonize work and personal lives. That effort has led Siemens to be awarded the prestigious Work-Life Excellence Award by the Ministry of Manpower, and the Platinum HEALTH (Helping Employees Achieve Life-Time Health) Award from the Health Promotion Board, both in 2008.
Besides his work in Siemens, Mr Bott was also the President of the Singaporean-German Chamber of Industry & Commerce. In addition, he sat on the board of the Singapore Manufacturers’ Federation, the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore, and the Employer Alliance.
