Siemens raised over S$225,000 for President’s Challenge 2008

Singapore, Friday, October 03, 2008

Siemens raised more than $225,000 in its fund raising efforts this year for the President’s Challenge 2008, an annual series of community-based activities to rally the public towards helping Singaporeans in need. The announcement was made at the Siemens-President’s Challenge Charity Golf 2008 event held at the Laguna National Golf and Country Club which saw 144 golfers participate in the name of charity.

A staunch supporter of the President’s Challenge, Siemens has been raising funds for this cause for seven consecutive years, with the aim of increasing awareness on how the community can be involved in helping the less fortunate. The record amount raised this year surpassed last year’s $183,000.

President S R Nathan, who initiated the President’s Challenge in 2000, said: “As one of Singapore’s pioneer foreign investors, Siemens has established its brandname and achieved excellent corporate and community success in the last 100 years that it has been here. I am heartened by its unceasing support for the President’s Challenge, by investing valuable resources, time and effort to organize various fund-raising events for the President’s Challenge annually for the last seven years.”

Over the year, the company embarked on various in-house fund-raising activities such as a charity premiere screening of the latest Batman movie, Dark Knight; massage sessions by therapists from the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped; a wine appreciation class; a charity lunch at the Siemens Center; and pledge card donations among Siemens staff.

Hans-Dieter Bott, Country Manager for Siemens Group of Companies in Singapore, said: “Siemens has always taken an active interest in the community of Singapore at large. As we celebrate our 100th year of operations in this country, we continue to take our social responsibilities seriously, as we believe that long-term business success is best achieved in stable societies that are capable of meeting the challenges that face them.

“We are proud to be strong supporters of The President’s Challenge and owe the success of our fund-raising efforts to our staff, business associates, and friends who have come forth to give generously to the cause.”
