Siemens raises over S$185,000 for the President's Challenge 2009
Singapore, Friday, October 09, 2009
Siemens raised more than $185,000 in its fund raising efforts this year for the President’s Challenge 2009, an annual series of community-based activities to rally the public towards helping Singaporeans in need. The announcement was made at the Siemens-President’s Challenge Charity Golf 2009 event held at the Tanah Merah Country Club which saw 140 golfers participate in the name of charity.
A staunch supporter of the President’s Challenge, Siemens has been raising funds for this cause for the last eight years, with the aim of increasing awareness on how the community can be involved in helping the less fortunate.
President S R Nathan, who initiated the President’s Challenge in 2000, said: “I am heartened by companies such as Siemens that has continuously supported the President’s Challenge since 2003. Each year, Siemens rallies its 2000 over employees in Singapore to organize and participate in various activities to raise funds for the President’s Challenge. I am also glad to see that each year, Siemens is able to rally many of its business associates to join this event, and do their part for the needy.”
This year, Siemens had also worked with two of its selected President’s Challenge 2009 beneficiaries for its fund-raising activities. The first being a food donation drive with Food from the Heart, whereby Siemens staff donated over $8,500 of food to the organization. Siemens also worked with Very Special Arts Singapore (VSA) to organize an art exhibition cum bazaar at its office building, Siemens Center. VSA sold more than $3,500 of artwork at the exhibition cum bazaar.
Siemens has also selected Rainbow Centre – Margaret Drive School and St. Andrew’s Community Hospital as its beneficiaries for President’s Challenge 2009. Lothar Herrmann, CEO of Siemens Pte Ltd, said: “Siemens operates in 190 countries worldwide, and is invariably a part of the local community – as an employer and client, as well as good “corporate citizen”. We assume responsibility for our environment and society in the locations where we operate and where we can make a positive contribution to social development.” “That is why in Singapore, we have been such an ardent supporter of the President’s Challenge. And during this year of economic crisis, we see our support and contribution as even more significant.”
