Siemens hosts security summit

Singapore, Monday, May 22, 2006

Recognizing the increasing need for security, Siemens organizes the security summit world tour to highlight the depth of its comprehensive range of security offerings. On 22 May 2006, Singapore will be first Asian country to host the Siemens Security Summit. Participants will learn about the latest security issues and trends, and security products, solutions and services from a panel of experts and industry leaders. The summit will center on the deployment of security to protect and enable a world of opportunities.

“Today, public life and business without security would simply be impossible,” said Dr. Milos Svoboda, Speaker of Siemens Security Business. He is convinced that increased security does not always equate with higher cost: “By deploying intelligent, integrated, cutting-edge solutions, security is an enabler that affords the competitive edge for companies and help them lower total operating cost by allowing them to concentrate on sealing the deal. Customers also place a higher level of trust on a secured company.”

A slew of security topics will be covered at the summit. These include security solutions for the hospitality industry, homeland security, information security, airport security, port security, transportation security and total building security. Participants can sign up for various breakout sessions during the second half of the summit for in-depth discussions on special security topics of interest.

Dr. Klaus Wucherer, Member of the Corporate Executive Committee, Siemens AG, shared: “What we want to show our customers here in Singapore – and in other countries in this region – is that the Siemens One initiative is now drawing on all our unbeatable synergies to package products, systems and services from across the company into tailored solutions. At this Security Summit, we want to prove to you that Siemens is one company, one face, one brand and one guarantee – standing behind optimal security solutions.

“Singapore has a unique reputation in the world for its extraordinary security, safety, law and order. I can’t think of any other city in the world that is run so perfectly. And this can be maintained – of course – only with state-of-the-art security systems in all sectors.”

Hans-Dieter Bott, Managing Director, Siemens Pte Ltd, addressed the attendees: “This security summit is a wonderful gathering of experts, technology, products, solutions and services. Active interaction between agencies and integration of human technology with systems technology are key factors to security success. The summit sets the stage to achieve both.”

The panel of 12 speakers is a culmination of international security experts from commercial and public sectors. Among them is General Ulrich K. Wegener, founder of the anti-terrorist unit “GSG 9”, Aubeck Kam, Senior Assistant Commissioner and Director of Operations at the Singapore Police Force. The Siemens security experts on the panel include Thomas Keupp, Vice President, Intelligence Services, Siemens Communication, Christos Grigorakis, Siemens Competence Center C4I in Athens, Mirko Panev, Head of the homeland security solutions business, Siemens Business Services, Reinhard Bertram, Head of Competence Center Security Services unit, Siemens Business Services, whose chief focus is information security, and last not least, Jens Wegmann, Head of Siemens Building Technologies Security Systems Division.

“Rising to security challenges is a tough balancing act. How do you keep people safe and still give due respect to their privacy? This is one of the questions which we hope to address at this summit,” added Mr. Bott.

Some 300 delegates are expected at the summit. These comprise captains of industries, government officials and security executives from government agencies, hospitality industry, healthcare sector, trade associations, transportation and logistics companies, consultants and others.

An exhibition of the latest Siemens security technologies will run alongside the summit at the Raffles City Convention Centre on Monday, 22 May 2006, between 8am and 7pm.
