Siemens restructures operations

Singapore , Friday, March 31, 2006

From 1 April 2006, Siemens’ Distribution and Industry Division will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Siemens Pte Ltd. On the same day, Siemens Pte Ltd will divest its interests in Siemens Westinghouse Technical Services Pte Ltd.

“Although the two exercises are distinct in nature, they serve the same purpose of streamlining our business to achieve stronger growth,” said Hans-Dieter Bott, Managing Director, Siemens Pte Ltd. Siemens’ Distribution and Industry Division becomes wholly-owned subsidiary of Siemens Pte Ltd

As part of a global restructuring exercise, the Siemens Distribution and Industry Division will become a wholly-owned company of Siemens Pte Ltd and take on the name Dematic S.E.A Pte Ltd from 1 April 2006. Globally, the new Dematic had already begun operations in Europe and US since 1 January 2006.

“As Dematic, we will continue to leverage on our global logistics knowledge and expertise. On the local level, we will continue to offer localized and industry specific systems solutions including consulting, implementation, service and support,” said Poul Lorentzen, Vice President, Dematic S.E.A Pte Ltd.

The newly-formed Dematic brings together all of Siemens’ specialists in logistics and distributions systems under one new global business structure. It is also a culmination of seven regional competence centers sited at cities across Europe, North America and the Asia Pacific, and four global industry groups: grocery and general merchandize, wholesale and direct distribution, food and beverage, and manufacturing and finished goods.

Added Mr. Lorentzen: “The transition to Dematic will be seamless for our customers. They will be dealing with the same business and the same people. In fact, the only material difference for them is probably the new name that they will see on our paperwork.

“At the same time, our customers will benefit from the event with the new business structure offering us an even more responsive structure, and better access to and more effective use of global resources. This translates to lower cost and more innovative and greater value solutions for our customers.”

Dematic hires more than 400 people in Asia Pacific, including 25 in Singapore. More than two thirds of its employees are qualified mechanical, electrical, electronics and software engineers, and service technicians.

Siemens Pte Ltd divests its interests in Siemens Westinghouse Technical Services Pte Ltd

Siemens Pte Ltd will divest all its interests in Siemens Westinghouse Technical Services Pte Ltd from 1 April 2006. The divested company will adopt the name SWTS Pte Ltd from that date and Siemens Pte Ltd will no longer have any shareholding, control or participation in the management of the new company.

Accompanied by full support from Siemens, the event follows a management buyout exercise executed by the management team of Siemens Westinghouse. Both companies recognize the long-term benefits of the separation for each to effectively pursue growth in their respective markets.

Mr. Bott shared: “The divestment is a strategic move for Siemens to focus our operations so that we can channel our resources to grow our core business.”

The new setup will maintain its existing organization structure and customers can expect the same level of expertise and professionalism from SWTS Pte Ltd.

Sim Bee Lim, Managing Director, SWTS Pte Ltd, said: “With a leaner outfit after the exercise, we will be able to respond even more promptly and flexibly to customer requirements, and improve service levels.”

An authorized service provider to the Siemens Automation and Drives group, SWTS Pte Ltd remains an important partner of Siemens. SWTS will also continue to use Siemens products for its projects and services with the added option of serving the market in an enlarged domain of its core business.
