Siemens wins Global Technology Award

Singapore, Wednesday, November 01, 2006

The Electronics Assembly Systems Division of Siemens’ Automation and Drives Group (A&D) is honored with the Global Technology Award for the newly-released Siplace D-Series placement machine platform. Trevor Galbraith, the publisher and editor-in-chief of Global SMT & Packaging Magazine, presented this award during the Assembly Technology Exposition in Rosemont, Illinois. Within one year, Siplace software, Siplace X-Series and Siplace D-Series have all won awards for their ability to help manufacturers achieve high flexibility and price performance ratio.

All the awards were judged by an independent jury of Chinese, European and American experts. The criteria included the suppliers’ capability to meet industrial challenges and apply existing technologies in a creative manner. Other factors included overall quality, economic efficiency and consistent performance.

The Siplace platform with both the Siplace X-Series and D-Series have continued to impress these juries particularly with innovations such as the digital vision system, linear direct drives and state-of-the-art software that produces significant time and cost savings in the manufacturing process.

These powerful Surface Mount Technology machines’ performance have been accelerated by the Siplace software which clinched the Global Technology award in 2005 for its solutions in the areas of product data definition, line monitoring and control, process control, as well as material and production management.

“We tap into our existing strengths in hardware and software to help our customers achieve the competitive edge in price performance. Our machines must help them achieve leaps in performance and these awards have helped us communicate our leading position in the industry,” comments Tilo Brandis, Head of Global Electronics Assembly, Siemens Automation and Drives Division.

Background information
