CAAS awards gate management system solution project to Siemens Business Services

Singapore, Tuesday, June 06, 2006

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) has awarded a Gate Management System (GMS) solution project valued at approximately S$2.6 million to Siemens Business Services. The solution is used in Terminal 1 and 2 at Changi Airport. It will also be rolled out to Terminal 3 in due course. The GMS will enable the airport to optimize the utilization of resources such as aircraft stands and arrival baggage belts, and to support the hub operations.

Under the agreement, Siemens Business Services is the appointed systems integrator and project manager for implementing the solution that is based on the state-of-the-art Flight Information Process System (FIPS) from the UFIS® Airport Solutions. The solution integrates all flight data processing, planning, actual flight data management, resource allocation, reports and conflict handling in one application.

To meet the complex requirements of airports and passenger demands, the UFIS solution provides a comprehensive coverage of flight information and is designed to automatically evaluate and process many different sources of the information which are centrally stored in the UFIS database. The airport operator can thus assign aircraft parking stands, gates, and baggage belts more effectively and efficiently. All these can be done at mouse clicks using the point & click and drag & drop technologies designed in the system.

"CAAS award of this project to us truly reflects the customer confidence in our systems integration experience and professional project management which we built extensively over the years. It also further reinforces our position as one of the world’s leading IT service providers in the market," said Pek Yew Chai, Managing Director, Siemens Business Services Singapore.

The project implementation is expected to be completed in January 2007.
